A Westfield, NY couple that fraudulently collected $119,990 in Social Security disability payments and Veterans benefits have been caught and convicted.

Allene Spearbeck and her husband Harold Spearbeck have been ordered to serve five years’ probation and to pay $120,000 after being convicted of theft of government property by defrauding the Social Security Administration (SSA) and Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Between November 2004 and March 2009, Harold Spearbeck collected disability benefits from SSA and  VA while working as a truck driver for DTL Inc.

Allene Spearbeck worked in the office for DTL.  To avoid losing her husband’s disability benefits, she used her social security number for tax purposes; thus allowing the disbursement of disability benefits to which they were not entitled.
