On November 21, 2018 our team headed over to volunteer at the SEQUOIA Senior Center’s annual Thanksgiving Feast in Passaic, NJ. SEQUOIA runs programs for senior citizens from diverse backgrounds that are designed to reduce isolation and encourage healthy aging through physical, spiritual, mental and recreational stimulation.
Prior to the event we were given a tour of the JFS Clifton-Passaic facility that has an extensive mental health center including a domestic violence clinic for adults and children (we saw both play and art therapy rooms for children), a job placement service, and a large food pantry. The center serves the physical, mental and spiritual needs of the entire community.
Our team set up the tables and buffet and helped serve the feast. We also spent time engaging with the seniors including a singalong and special Thanksgiving-themed bingo game that we brought with us! The seniors were very enthusiastic and thankful that we came to bring them joy during the holidays.
